MTN STANDS FOR MID TERM NOTE WHICH IS A BOND FOR CORPORATION OR PROJECT.
There are basically three different buyers for MTN’s which I have listed below
- The trader or discount buyer, these buyers are typically looking for a spread and not really worried about the coupon rate of the bank instrument. The goal for these buyers is to trade the instruments and make small gains on each trade. Typically these traders are what some call PPP private platform traders or structured traders. Some times they could be large trust’s or asset management companies as well.
- The investor or note holders, these buyers are very interested in the value of the instrument and the coupon rate. The goal for these buyer is to buy the instrument and hold them long term for a guaranteed return on their investment.
- The hedge funds, pension fund or end buyer/ retail buyer, these buyers are not as worried about the face value as they are about the coupon rate. The goal for them is to provide a conservative guaranteed return for the investors to average out and help to hedge their clients portfolio.
